Woodland Nativity 2015

I can think of no better way to see in the festive season than being in the woods surrounded by children, their parents, grandparents and all the playgroup staff, sharing and celebrating this magical time of year.

Two woodland nativities took place again this year, with the 2 to 3 year old Woodland Adventures joining the older forest school children at the forest school site.

It certainly was a memorable experience for all, with temperatures milder than in Jerusalem on Wednesday and the path up to the site a real mud bath! But this did not deter from the usual merriment and laughter of forest school!

Highlights included making willow crowns and star wands, the woodland nativity with angels and shepherds and on Wednesday a three week old baby as baby Jesus, toasting marshmallows on the fire, sharing hot drinks and mince pies, a visit from Mrs Christmas seated on the woodland throne, where she handed out beautiful felt mice and candles to the children.

More magic was created this year as two other special guests jingled their way up to the forest school site, playing the ukulele and singing Christmas carols. By the end of the sessions, children and adults were singing and even dancing happily away to many festive tunes, making it difficult to leave at the end as we were all having such fun!

Magical Advent Spiral

It is always lovely to see the joy on peoples faces when they join us for Advent Spiral.  It is even more lovely when they take the time to write to us to tell us what the experience meant to them.  Thank you.

“Thank you so much for a such a magical advent spiral. Please can you pass on my thanks to all the staff and committee too, I really appreciate everyone’s efforts. The children’s faces say it all…even J sat still and was transfixed for a full round of carols….and what an adventure to and from the visitor centre through the woods!”

We are so pleased you enjoyed it 🙂

Advent Spiral – 2015

Again this year Grindleford and Eyam Playgroup is running the Advent Spiral.

This is a magical event that provides an opportunity for a moment of pause, peace and reflection, before the onslaught that is Christmas. Hosted by the National Trust at the Moorlands Visitor Centre, it is truly a magical time.

The children are invited to light a candle from the centre of the room, and place it on the spiral. Carols are sung and families from the community come together for a chance to be.

A really special event for Christmas.  Join us this year to enjoy the magic!

When: 7 December 2015. Time 15.30 – 17:30
Where: Moorlands Discovery Centre. Longshaw Estate. S11 7TZ. 15.30-17.30hrs. A truly magical introduction to the advent season.

A Big Forest School for All Thank You

Saturday and the sun shone for Forest School for All.
Around 60 people joined us to work together to build a beautiful new den, woodland chimes, a weaving station and a climbing frame for our forest school site….as well as making sure it was cleared of brambles and that plenty of wood is chopped and stacked for the winter months ahead.
It also provided a chance for people to meet, kids to play and create dreamcatchers and practice knot tying and for everyone to enjoy a lovely relaxing time – helped by hot drinks and sweet treats.

A big thank you to everyone attended and worked hard.  You raised £100 for preschool. We’re a charity and rely on fundraising like this to give our kids such a special experience.

If you missed this one or fancy doing it all over again,  come along and join us for our next Forest School for All event on 5th December.

What a Wild Wood Experience!

We hosted the forest school session at the Longshaw Wild Wood Experience and what an experience it was!

8lbs of bread dough, 20 pints of pea and nettle soup, 4 sacks of logs, 2 bags of marshmallows and 1 pint of cream….and more giggles, smiles and happy people than could be counted.

Many visitors spent quite a lot of time at the site having a go at bread making, butter churning, fire starting, animal disk making, playing on the seesaw or just enjoying some quiet time under the gazebo reading and colouring.

We were voted the best attraction on the day!

Thanks to the National Trust and to all our staff and helpers for making the day so wonderful and for raising funds for Grindleford and Eyam Playgroup.
