Sir William Hill Climb

On Friday 9th September GEP is putting on a cycle time trial up the Sir William Hill, it’s a beast! 1.77km (that’s 1.1miles) and climbs a whopping 200m (650feet) in that distance.  That’s an average gradient of 11%.

Last year we saw some incredible performances from club cyclists and total newcomers alike. Pit yourself against the best, and then kick back with the delights of the Friday evening festival.

Great news is the race is being sponsored by our most local cycle shop shop High Peak Cycles (Calver and Glossop). Check out their fab gear: http://highpeakcycles.co.uk/

They have generously provided race prizes of £50, £20 and £10 vouchers for 1st, 2nd and 3rd women and men.

And they have funded the production of our fab event T-shirts (designed by one of our dads). There will be children’s sizes available too! Here is a sneak preview of the fab event T-shirts, on sale for £10.

A Comedy Night Success

A MASSIVE ‘Thank You’ to Rob Rouse, Katie Mulgrew, Peter Brush and Tom Wrigglesworth for giving us such a fabulous night of comedy.  Among the many subjects covered we heard about escapades in caravans, ‘invitations’ to join speed awareness courses, reflection on childhood, the age of babysitters and we got to know one another a little better through audience participation 🙂

And thank you to all who came. It was a sell-out event and  we raised a fantastic £1040 for playgroup.

Woodland Nativity 2015

I can think of no better way to see in the festive season than being in the woods surrounded by children, their parents, grandparents and all the playgroup staff, sharing and celebrating this magical time of year.

Two woodland nativities took place again this year, with the 2 to 3 year old Woodland Adventures joining the older forest school children at the forest school site.

It certainly was a memorable experience for all, with temperatures milder than in Jerusalem on Wednesday and the path up to the site a real mud bath! But this did not deter from the usual merriment and laughter of forest school!

Highlights included making willow crowns and star wands, the woodland nativity with angels and shepherds and on Wednesday a three week old baby as baby Jesus, toasting marshmallows on the fire, sharing hot drinks and mince pies, a visit from Mrs Christmas seated on the woodland throne, where she handed out beautiful felt mice and candles to the children.

More magic was created this year as two other special guests jingled their way up to the forest school site, playing the ukulele and singing Christmas carols. By the end of the sessions, children and adults were singing and even dancing happily away to many festive tunes, making it difficult to leave at the end as we were all having such fun!

Magical Advent Spiral

It is always lovely to see the joy on peoples faces when they join us for Advent Spiral.  It is even more lovely when they take the time to write to us to tell us what the experience meant to them.  Thank you.

“Thank you so much for a such a magical advent spiral. Please can you pass on my thanks to all the staff and committee too, I really appreciate everyone’s efforts. The children’s faces say it all…even J sat still and was transfixed for a full round of carols….and what an adventure to and from the visitor centre through the woods!”

We are so pleased you enjoyed it 🙂
