Family forest school – a great success

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our family forest school – it was a beautiful Autumn morning and great to get out with friends and family.

Once up at the site the children helped the leaders run through our rules and showed parents how to move safely round the fire circle.

There lots of jobs to be done and we want to thank everyone who helped re-build the climbing frame and balancing beams – popular activities at our weekly sessions.

National Trust rangers joined us for part of the morning and helped clear a patch of rhododendrons to create a new toilet area – great work. The rangers were delighted to see so many families enjoying time in the woods.

The children were busy too – painting with mud and creating an entire menagerie of fantastic beasts from clay and twigs.

Clay animals

The toasting of marshmallows was a popular way to round off a super morning.

The event raised £70 which will be used to buy new equipment for playgroup.

Look out for details of our Spring and Summer dates.

Water or wine?

Playgroup’s stall proved very popular at the Grindleford Show this year. Every bottle was sold within the hour raising £55 for playgroup funds.

We would like to thank parents and local businesses who contributed wine for the stall:

The Derwentwater Arms, Calver

The Maynard Arms, Grindleford

The Miners Arms, Eyam

The Sir William, Grindleford

Your support is much appreciated.

Mud, mud – we love mud!

Summer holiday club was great fun this year – the wet weather had filled our mud pit and many happy hours were spent playing with our favourite stuff – children got stuck, adults got stuck but everyone was rescued in time to go home. We were even inspired to create this fantastic artwork!Mud
